Saleem's Sweet & Curry House

This place is the best! Despite the nightmare of driving in Birmingham I always make the effort to go whenever I visit the city. The food is good value for money and tastes fantastic. The staff are friendly and the whole restaurant is kept very clean.
The first time I went my dining partner ordered a small naan bread. We thought they had made a mistake when it arrrived, it looked like a medium to us. As we were finishing our meal we saw one of the waiters serving another table with a naan bread spread over 2 plates. A large we thought - but we were speechless when the waiter told us it was only a medium!

The previous reviewer show dissipontment with Saleem's. I belief he may not understand what Saleem is. Saleem is not a fine dining experience. Salleem is a curry house and sweet shop. Its cooking can be compared to home cooking. nothing fancy, nothing spectacular, but wholesome, hearty and with plenty of feel good factor. I do visit other balti restaurants from time to time, and there are some in Birmingham that could come close to Mitchillun quality, however if you eat there every day you will soon get board with their taste. I am going to Sallems for more that 10 years now and I am proud of taking my friends there, One friend i took there a year or so ago is a chef who himself held a Mitchillin star. "Bloody good food this" he told me. Go for it Salleems and stay the way you are.

The food, I'm sorry to say, does not hold up to the quality one expects in Birmingham. I would suggest trying others on Ladypool Rd/ Stoney Lane/ Moseley Rd. This was just poor - the chicken had been boiled and then jest heated in a pre-made suce. The meat (lamd) dish was far too spicy (the spices weren't balanced properly).
Service was friendly.
Sorry - but Sallems need to take the bad reviws along with the good.

Quite simply the best in Brum. Once you eat here you won't bother going anywhere else - there is no point. Great food, great value, comedy service.

I remember Saleem's as the official University of Birmingham Medical School Curry House, but it's much smarter now! The food is excellent and the service attentive. Following my return to Brum and to Saleem's, I bullied Saleem into preparing home-made kulfi (I think he makes it just for me, although there now seems to be a small stock kept in the freezer). The kulfi is SUBLIME.
