The Garlic bread used to be amazing at this restaurant when it was made on flat bread with lashings of garlic butter on a tomato base and now it's served on an uneven thin crust (like a biscuit) with meagre portions of topping.

What a shame, It was once the best starter in the place in my opinion and the reason we went !!

The food was lovely and the prices reasonable, but unfortunately the service left a lot to be desired. We visited at 7.30 on a Saturday night, and although I appreciate that the resturant was busy, there was a very long delay before even our drinks orders were taken. We were a party of 6, and three of us had ordered a bottle of wine, which did not turn up when the other drinks arrived. After leaving it about 10 mins, we enquired about the wine, only to be told "It is on it's way!" in a rather grumpy tone! after about another 10 mins, it arrived, and we asked if we could order, as by then we had had plenty of time to peruse the menu. The waitress looked at us in suprise and said something like "I'm not sure if you can order now. The kitchen is very busy". Ok, so it was a busy saturday night, but surely it is the responsiblility of the resturant to ensure that they have the capacity to cater for that many people?

Anyway, once the food arrived it was gorgeous, and so I would give this resturant the benefit of the doubt, but perhaps would not go again on a Saturday night!

I have been eating at Casa Italia for the best part of 14 years now which was back then a true dining experience and “little gem” of a place to eat it and was renowned for the superb dining experience.

I have had the privilege to have visited this eatery many times during this period often with my family and many umpteen of our friends. We wasn’t sure what would happen here after new owners took over a few years back, although still visited regularly always glad to recommend the food and service. However we have all come to the same conclusion that the service and the food quality is in rapid decline. It is not the cheapest place to dine and although now given it a fair crack of the whip to see if things improve although I tend to agree with some of Mr Philip Cooks comments below, The personal service that once was with fine food and service is now no more than a very average dining experience with a “pack em in and turn round” at any cost attitude. We will not be visiting as often and will definitely not recommend this place until things vastly improve.

Having had a bad experience at another resturant the same night I called them at short notice on a Saturday night and they were able to find us a table. We were met with a warm welcome from every member of staff we saw and asked if there was a table we prefered. The choice of food is very extensive with something for all tastes and budgets.

My partners Salad Started was a generous portion and very fresh even though it was quite late. My Artichoke hearts in a tomato sauce we fantastic and piping hot, something I find becoming more and more of a rarity these days.

The Main courses we also of the same excellent standard & temperature and my partner was advised by the owner to try her dish with spaghetti rather that the potates that is came with on the menu, He was not wrong the whole dish was great a lovely balance with lots of flavour. Mine also was top draw

All this for a very reasonable price and good selection of wines.

I cannot say enough how much effort was made by the Staff. What started off as a potentially disaster of an evening soon became a most enjoyable evening.

Try to use this resturant at least twice a month. The Monday Tuesday Wednesday offer of £9.95 is great value. Food is always of a greart standard hot and good portions. Staff are always friendly - have even seen them out and about shopping and they always say hi. Even saw the owner out at the theatre - he came straight over to say hello. Casa is a great great place to go!!

Casa Italia is the first restaurant in which I ate when I arrived in Birmingham 3 years ago. And what a nice experience that I have repeated many times since. Food is very good - you have to try their tiramisu - it is to die for. The service is also very nice. I certainly recommend it!

my wife and i dined here on sat 5th april. When we arrived we chose to dine upstairs. Our waiter was a very nice young man sat us down and asked what we woold like to drink even offering for us to test the wine. This unfortunately was where the good service finished. We were booked in for 7.30pm and within 10 minutes of arriving at the restaurant we had our wine and starters sat in front of us on the table which sometimes is not a bad thing. The starters were ok if not a bit pricey with starters ranging from five pounds to around seven pounds. Once our starters were finished we were looking forward to a bit of a rest before our main meals but unfortunately within a few minutes of our starters being taken away our main meals were put in front of us, well i think it was a main meal. I had the canelonni which can only be best described as average, it was very small and had been baked to within an inch of its life, and for the price of ten pounds very expensive. During our main meal a table of around 20 arrived next to us. This is when we were virtually forgotten about and all the attention focused on this party. We have also eaten at Va Bene in Hagley which is their sister restaurant and experienced the same rushed service at that restaurant. I believe you go to a restaurant to eat in a relaxed atmosphere and not to be rushed out the door within 45 minutes of arriving which is what would of happened if the delay in ordering the dessert (because all of the attention focusing on the party of 20 next to us) had not happened. From our main course being taken away to our dessert being ordered was about 30 minutes and we were not even asked if we would like anything more to drink even when both of our glasses were empty. All in all it was not a very enjoyable meal or dining experience and left feeling that we had been a little ripped off and will not be returning to either restaurant in the future.
