Chez Jules

We went to Chez Jules for a friend's birthday and found it an all round disapointment. We couldn't catch the eye of the waiting team whenever we wanted a top up of wine or to order or needed to ask something.
My starter came late (I hadn't finished it before the main came), and when the main arrived my friend had to ask for the accompanying potatoes, which also then came late.
I had beef with a rosemary and redwine jus which tasted neither of rosemary nor redwine. It came with fries, but some kind of accompanying veg would have been nice too. The sauce was lack lustre and the beef wasn't great either.
Perhaps they were having a bad day when I went, but I won't be going back to find out., it certainly wasn't what I expected of a nice French restaurant.
Also a chocolate mousse with raspberries is a chocolate mousse with a raspberry. A bit picky I know but it could have done with them.

I just love the atmosphere in this place. Dimly lit..lots of candles everywhere.its always buzzing. I've always wanted to come on a romantic date here..alas no one has ever taken me there....I think it would be frighfully nice and a bit like being in Pais but without all the fuss and bother of getting there. the food is great too- the dauphinoise is heaven on a plate (as it should be, with such a combination of carbs and saturated fat).

A cheap and friendly place for a leisurely lunch or evening meal. With long bench-tables set out for large groups this is perhaps more a place to eat with a group of friends or colleagues than for a romantic tete-a-tete. But the food is both inventive and delicious, and there's an authentic Parisien vibe to the place. Definitely worth a look.
