Don’t bother! We would have loved to have reviewed this restaurant, unfortunately we didn’t even get as far as sitting down. We arrived at Cielo at 6.15pm on a Saturday evening to sample the fixed menu deal. On entering the restaurant we were confronted by a very rude man (no pleasantries) who said that we had to vacate the table by 8pm. Whilst my husband & I were discussing whether to stay or not, the rude man just kept interrupting us by repeating, very loudly, that he wanted the table back at 8pm. I had to ask him to stop repeating himself so we could discuss whether we wanted to stay or not.

Even though we would have had adequate time to eat, we felt he was dictating what time we ate and that he was doing us a favour by allowing us to eat in his restaurant.

In the end we just walked out as the whole experience was utterly poor. We shall not be returning to this restaurant.

I had heard good things about this restuarant - but left dissappointed by the quality of the food. The seafood risotto was rather less a smooth creamy risotto and had a slightly bitty texture (not unlike a rice pudding!). For the £14.00 price I expect something more and to have tomatoes that have not been skinned - that is just sloppy and shows a lack of care and precision in the kitchen. Having said that my companion said the Pork Belly was really good and I just chose wrong.

I bid in an auction to win a meal for 2 at Cielo at an event having heard what a great restaurant it was.

When we arrived (having booked of course) we explained to the waiter/staff that we had a voucher and from then on were treated like 2nd class citizens. It was as if we were getting a free meal or something and it was too much trouble for them to serve us like normal customers (which we were BTW).

When I calcuated the bill we had actually paid way over the odds for our voucher at this auction (over £100). When we ordered a bottle of wine we were told we could only have a basic cheap bottle for £14.50. Our food was nothing special and my friend left her lasagne as it was really dry and bland. We weren't offered a dessert just given a bill and left to leave our table without even a goodbye.

I won't be going here again on principle.

I make it a point to visit Cielo every time I visit Birmingham. The food, staff and atmosphere are all top notch. Good selection of wines and the small touches set this establishment apart from most others. Although I visit infrequently as I am a New Yorker, the welcome I receive is genuine. A must try while in Birmingham.

My husband and I ate here on Saturday. The restaurant was fully booked and the waiting staff were excellent and didn't appear rushed at all.

The food was out of this world and the wine was fabulous.

This restuarant deserves a Mitchel star.

Went there yesterday, and too the set menu. The dessert (trio di dolci) was really nice. The rest though... Had difficulties finding scampi in the risotto with scampi, and the penne was just average. So it was really average. A bit disappointed. Last time I went a month ago was much better.
