My niece booked a table for 5.30pm this Saturday 7th January to celebrate her Mothers 60th Birthday and 18 members of the family had an enjoyable evening. Everyone seemed to enjoy the setting and décor of the restaurant. The servers serving us at our table had been very pleasant and attentive and showed a genuine interest with us and the occasion the family was celebrating. This also included interaction with young children of the family. The time between ordering food and for it to be placed in front t of us was very acceptable. The presentation of food and quality from the fixed menu was exceptional and enjoyed by all of us. My wife and I would like to dine at the restaurant again and would speak highly of it to friends and other members of the family.

Went to Cielo restaurant on the 28th of december it was for a birthday of our friends. On arriving at the restaurant i can say we was not given the warmest of welcomes anyway we went to our table where we waited ages to order a drink. When we finally got a drink we ordered our starter then was told they had no goats cheese no scallops and no mussels which one of the party was looking forward to try.then we ordered our mains which was a bit of a mission as they had very little seafood and the 2 ladies wanted the seafood medley which was a joke after this just before they was about to serve the mains the came to tell us they had no chunky chips to go with the steak which they said they had no potatoes which for a restaurant of this quality we could not understand. We didnt even bother with a dessert has we were all fed up with it by now.On leaving the restaurant we was asked if everything was ok with the meal which it certainly was not so we told them politely and they then became very confrontational he explained the reason there was no seafood was because he did not want to buty frozen well i had been to the fish market they day and seen plenty of fresh then i had to make my exit when i explained this to him

Very disappointing. I can honestly say I have never experienced such rude and arrogant staff. Rang up to book a table a few days before we planned to go and enquired about the £12.95/£15.95 set menu advertised on the internet. Was told as long as we ordered by 7pm we would could have the offer. Myself and another member of our party of four arrived first. Even though the restaurant was quiet there was certainly no warm welcome or pleasantries exchanged with the waiter, he just looked us up and down, marched us across the restaurant and slammed back the chairs for us. We then started to look at the menus and realised that the menu we had been promised was not there. I enquired about this and was told that the menu had changed over Christmas. I explained to the waiter what I had been advised on the phone and he asked me what I thought he could do about it, no apology or anything. He then called the manager out, who was very intimidating. I explained the issue and he told me I should have looked at the website, which I obviously had done so already, hence knowing about the set menu. There was no apology or anything and he was basically implying that I was lying. They were so rude that we went next door to the Thai Edge. If you have a choice between the two, I strongly recommend the Thai Edge! Gorgeous food and in contrast to the staff at Cielo, delightful, welcoming staff.

Arrived for an evening with friends with a table reserved for 19:30. Ignored by management on arrival, and party behind who were obviously regulars were given full management welcome. Once seated a long wait for drinks and over an hour before starters were received. Main courses came out, two out of the four dishes were inedible due to being quite clearly sat on a hot plate over cooking and congealing the sauces. Upon complaining to staff, we were treated with resentment and little respect and an issue was made of re-cooking these meals and we were told that maybe this was not the restaurant for us! We were so appalled at the treatment we received that we asked for the bill. This resulted in the restaurant trying to charge for meals not received and upon speaking with the manager we were informed with children starving in africa we should not send food back!!! Extremely disappointed, dissattisfied with what we understood was one of Birmingham's top Italian restaurants. We will never be back and would not recommend to anyone!

My friend and I went on an early Monday evening in August so the restaurant was quiet. The 3 course fixed price menu was good value for money and was very tasty, particularly the meatball starters and desserts (tiramisu, crepe alla arancia). There are some pricey wines but our Montepulciano was fine. Sat outside which was pleasant in the heat. Perhaps because it was quiet the service was excellent. Our waitress in particular was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely go again.

Went for a family meal (around 7 adults and 4 children) last night... bit of a last minute thing as we couldn't get tables at an early enough time at two of our preferred italians. Anyway, thinking you can't go too wrong with Italian food and seeing it's location and prices (albeit on the high side), we went ahead with it.

Sadly we were very disappointed... i mean really disappointed. One of the worst Italian restaurants i've ever been to. The decor was nice enough but we waited around 40 mins before our starters arrived which was pretty bland and on the cold side. (i ordered calamari which was too soft with no crispiness whatsoever.. the accompanying sauce was absolutely tasteless.. thankfully there was a wedge of lemon to give it a hint of seasoning).

Surprisingly the main came shortly after. Ordered corn fed chicken wih asparagus. Chicken looked nice and the skin was nice and crisp..but that was about it. Totally bland and tasteless. it was drizzled with some kind of lemon sauce (what tasted like it anyway) which didn't help at all. Ordered some side dishes at around £3 each and it was really bad. The mash, you can tell had been microwaved for far too long.. it was horrible. Ordered a veal dish for my mum who's got false teeth thinking it'll be nice and tender for her... turned out it was the toughest piece of beef i've ever had. She had to have most of my chicken.

The service was hit and miss and it definitely depended on who was available to serve at the time. Not great.. especially considering the prices. But service isn't something we would mark our dining experience on as the food and how it tastes is far more important (I used to and still go to Wong Kei's in London.. their service is awful but millions still flock there just to see how bad it is!)

Same sort of opinions were shared amongst my other guests that the food was so sub-standard... to the point of being a total rip-off (bill came ot a lot and we didn't even have any wine!).

To finish off, it was our first visit to Cielo which we think gives Italian food a really bad name and certainly it'll be our last as well.
