Quite amazing, I have read all of the reviews submitted and realised I just had to comment. I took a party of 12 people just before Christmas 2006. We arrived 10 minutes before our due time, the staff were extremely accomodating extremely helpful and could not do enough for us. We sat down approximately 5 minutes after the alloted time and had a quite wonderful meal. This is an Italian Restaurant, so please order Italian food. It was marvelous, fantastic, superb, what more do you need to know. Wonderful setting, wonderful staff, wonderful food. I am writing this on the 2nd of March because we have just booked the same venue for the 8th of March for my leaving party, and myself and 15 friends will have a wonderful time. One very last point, I regularly eat out around 3 nights a week around the United Kingdom.

Having worked in the Mailbox for some 5 years now, we decided this year to go to Don Salvo’s for our office Christmas lunch. There were thirteen of us and we all previously ordered our meals from the standard Christmas menu. Our table was booked for 1:30pm and we all duly arrived some five to ten minutes beforehand. We were told our table wasn’t quite ready and therefore purchased drinks for everyone from the bar. The clock ticked on and more drinks were purchased and after waiting one hour we were eventually shown to our two separate tables, which is not what we expected for an office meal.

We then ordered the very expensive wine and other drinks and waited for the starters to arrive. About half an hour later the starters began to appear. Those who had the soup had to constantly ask for the bread that should have accompanied the soup, all the other starters certainly lacked in quantity and quality. When we then got to the main courses we can only say what a bad choice it was having the lamb cutlets. These were overcooked and so tiny you would say there is more meat on a sparrow’s leg. The sauté potatoes and mixed vegetables were then presented on a total of six dinner sized plates for all thirteen of us. This was split between the two tables with two vegetables and one sauté potatoes on one table and visa versa on the other table. The quantities of these were so poor that each person only had the tiniest amount to go with their meal. We did ask for more, but nothing further arrived, although we asked a few times to each of the waitresses.

We then reached the desserts those that chose the cheese and biscuits, were in for a big surprise, the waitress held the plate out and stated she was sorry but they had run short on biscuits and that there was only enough for one biscuit each and please would we not blame her for this. This was the final straw for all of us and she was told to take them away and maybe use a little initiative and go upstairs to Tesco and buy a box of Jacob’s crackers. The headwaiter then appeared, made some poor attempt at an apology and offered us an alternative dessert. We were later told as an goodwill gesture there was a glass of champagne for us all on the bar. The drink wasn’t actually champagne, but some cheap sparkling wine. As it turned out, it now appears that the price of the standard Christmas meal included this glass of Italian Proseco, which we should have had on arrival.

The bill was then presented to us at a cost of over £500 for what we can all say was the worst Christmas meal we have ever had. The meal, service and overall event was disgraceful. We are all making sure everyone we speak to hears of it and hopefully they will never venture through the doors of Don Salvo. Maybe our big mistake was going in a group of thirteen, which was certainly unlucky for us, but we guess this was a simple coincidence. As a conclusion those that shortly after went to the Handmade Burger Company in Brindlay Place had some excellent burgers for a fraction of the price of this disaster.

Having read more than on review about Don Salvos I have to strongly disagree, with what has been said. Feeling angry at what has been said. My partner & I started going to said resturant before it moved to it's new location, and we have been looked after very well and treated like old friends by the owners on more than one occasion, we can only recall one saturday night that we were not happy, but we put this behind us as we knew what the service and food is like. We had our civil partnership lunch there on the 11th February 06 and could not speak highly of the way we were lok after by the staff. the food was off a very high standard and teh service was discreet yet attentive. We were more than happy to pay the service charge and a little more on top. Having moved to it's new location, the service is once again of a high standard and the food top notch as they say. Our only gripe is that teh tables are too close together! So I urge one & all to go to Don Salvos and enjoy a fine evening of food and wine and attentive service. One tip - if you do go on a Saturday do bear in mind that this is a busy time and yes you may have to wait but sit back, enjoy and relax we do.

We visited *** ***** in Wolverhampton on Saturday 24th June after 'having to book' 3 weeks in advance. We were seated originally under stairs with the waiters reaching over for cutlery, glasses etc. We asked to be moved. My starter was returned noless than 3 times before it came out right. My main course of grilled sea bass was returned once the presentation was diabolical. To add insult even further we were charged for a bottle of wine that we had not purchased and then 10% on the final bill which we refused to pay. If only l had read the reviews on the *** ***** Birmingham beforehand. Talk about a fast food rip off, definitely never never again.

How far the mighty have fallen.

Don Salvo in its original position was a fine restaurant, worth travelling 50 miles for an excellant meal, well cooked, well served and fairly priced. The shadow of itself in its new location, directly below The Ramada hotel is appalling, not worth travelling 50 yards for. We visited the restarant lasst night and the dining experience was awful. The standard of the food was very poor, veal with bacon instead of parma ham, tinned tomato sauce that tasted like they had just sieved out the Heinz beans, my wife had a tasteless lamb shank fresh out of the microwave. Complaints to the manager were met with a response Basil Fawlty would have been proud as an example of customer service - I'll speak to the chef !!. Never again, avoid the disappointment, avoid the ripp-off.

Nice looking restaurant and if you can sit facing the water the view isn’t too bad either.

We were shown to our table and our coats were taken, which seemed a nice touch until you realise later they are just hung up by the entrance so any one can take them if they wish to do so, (make sure you leave nothing valuable in them if you hang them up). Our waitress, who had only just learned the basics of the English language, struggled to understand the concept of a sweet white wine with lemonade with no ice, so we had to send the drinks back every time we ordered one (which was pointless as all they did was tip the ice out and we lost half the drink). The food was ok, the pan fried spinach was very bland, the pasta was far better than the veal, the major down side was they add 10% to the bill so even if you get crappy service you still end up tipping the waitress, never saw any of them smile once. This restaurant is ok if you are in the area and other places are fully booked.
