Eat at Don Salvo in Birmingham last week with a couple of colleagues. I haven't been here before (thank god!) and will not be going back. I really don't know why people eat here. The staff are incredibly rude. When we arrived, the staff were chatting at the bar and looked at us and then continued to chat. I walked up to them and asked to be seated. We got this huffy little man who seemed to be upset that I have actually asked him to do his job. Menus were slow to appear and we waited half an hour for drinks to arrive. We were going to have a full three course meal but decided to have mains only due to bad service so far. I had a steak which I asked to be well done and it came out bloody.... I sent it back and again the huffy little man tutted. Overall, a very poor, disappointing meal. I wish I had found this site before I went for the meal, I would have gone to the other place accross the road, where at least you get good service and food.

There are a couple of good things about this restaurant, the location is great and also the decor is lovely, but everything else, rubbish. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE, ABSOLUTE TOSH.

Wolverhampton Don Salvos. Never mind Don Salvos, just Don Go There... 4 of us went last night. Starters were edible. I'd really like to be more positive, but we eat out a lot and I'm not going to be polite here. My buddy had steak - when he asked he was told it was sirloin. He asked for it to be medium rare. Honestly, you could have bought Asda Smart Price or whatever it's called and cooked it better and it would have tasted and looked better. Awful just doesn't come close. 3 of us had pasta dishes that were tasteless, bland, and as my friend put it "Heinz canned bolognese is better", and that's saying something. You may be thinking "sucker - you paid for that" in the true British tradition. Fortunately I don't do that. If I'm being charged the prices that Don Salvos ask, I want quality food with excellent service. We got neither. The waiting staff were ok, smart, polite. The manager is rude, aggressive, disinterested.

A real shame. Do yourself a favour - next time you see me in the Dog and Gun, buy me a pint - I have hopefully just saved you a ton. Go to Romagnas or Bella instead.

Birmingham Don Salvo:

Arrogant and they think they can twirl a quick buck!!!

I shall wait for the day they'll close down.

do not waste your time and money...impress your guests elsewhere...plenty of other places to eat at the mailbox.

I took my mother, boyfriend and my boyfriend's mother to the new Don Salvo in Birmingham last night. I booked a table for 7.30 but we were not seated until about 8.00 then waited for another 15 mins before being given any menus. We were not asked if we wanted drinks when we were seated and not asked throughout the whole night. We also had to ask for napkins, salt, pepper and water.

The service was completely appalling. The staff were all rude, brash and totally uninterested. I guess they don't have to be since the service charge is already sneakily added to your bill so they don't have to work for tips. My mother was hit around the head twice by menus and my boyfriend was almost clobbered by a waiter hauling a chair around. Half of our main course never turned up so we had to ask for it again. To be fair we were comped for the late veg but the garlic bread we ordered was still wrong when it did arrive. The deserts was a pantomime in itself, with much confusion and swapping of plates. By this point we had given up trying to talk to the staff so we just ate the deserts none the less. We were not offered any coffees or the bill and we had our coats thrown at us on leaving.

The food was pretty good though and the decor was very charming (although there was some strange goings on with some pot plants) and we were so shocked by the terrible service that we actually found it rather funny.

Its such a shame that the staff were so rude otherwise it would have been a lovely evening. I'm never going again.

We recently visited don salvo's in wolverhampton and I have to say their service was appalling. the meals were slow arriving, we were never once asked if we wanted more drinks, offered the dessert menu or even asked if anyone wanted coffee at the end of the meal. our bill came to over £400 but the manager looked vague and couldn't have cared less when we complained about the service. The food was average and overpriced for the portion sizes you get. simple things like offering you black pepper with your main meal isn't rocket science - they can do that in pizza hut, but don salvo's can't even manage that.

yes, it was busy, but at the end of the day they are in the restaurant business so being busy can't come as a complete shock?! and being busy is no excuse for ignorance. if you can't handle it then don't take so many bookings! surely it's better to have 6 satsified customers walk out of the door rather than 12 vowing never to return - and putting reviews like this on a website for everyone to read!

Don Salvos, Wolverhampton.

My wife, two sons and I went to Don Salvos, Wolverhampton to enjoy a Sunday Dinner. Good and polite service. The food was awful, especially the Pizzas which were burn't and inedible. The worst Pizzas we have ever tasted. Stopped at Domino's on the way home.

Birmingham July 5th - the worst service i have ever encountered. We waited so long that we got tired of the lame excuses from the rude waiters and left.

Last Wednesday evening a group of us from work decided to visit the new Don Salvo in Birmingham... what a mistake!

The staff were rude, the food average and despite being nearly empty, we felt rushed and uncomfortable. It astounds me that a new restaurant like this is operating in such a manner.

When our mains arrived (a 50 minute wait), one was incorrect and when this was questionned no apologies were made. We were forced to start our meals with one member of the party hungry for the fifteen minute wait before the right dish actually arrived.

Came to around £70 for three of us, not too bad - but paying for a meal or experience you've not really enjoyed makes any amount seem too great to me.

I have visited Don Salvo in the Mailbox and Wolverhampton. At both places I found the food extremely good. Unfortunately the service does not match. Birmingham was ok, the staff were pleasant but food took a very long time to come. Wolverhampton has the opposite problem. Each time I have visited the staff are bordering on rude. Very slow service, bar staff have not got a clue what they are doing, no-one is very friendly. Although the food is so nice I doubt I would ever return again unless it was during a very quiet period. The whole outfit seems understaffed and the staff clearly have no customer service skills.
