Manzil

We have visited Manzils on many occasions this year and have received some excellent food - up until now. Despite claims by the waiter that the staffing remains unchanged, it is therefore a mystery as to why both the recipes and the quality of the ingredients have suffered.

We ordered a lamb rogan and a paneer tikka masala and both were utterly tasteless. This is in stark contrast to meals we have had there earlier this year. The tomatoes in the rogan were cheap salad tomatoes and the lamb was strangely tasteless. Basically it was lamb lumps in a tomato gravy - no trace of any spice. The masala was forgettable too - red lumps in a cheap sauce. The meal cost us nothing after we complained, but we decided to try a takeaway just in case it had been a one off. Once again, tasteless food where once it had been great. The naans have suddenly become rubbery and the rice utterly lacking in any sort of aroma.

I understand they're renovating the flats above the restaurant but it looks to us as if they're spending too much time on those and not enough time on the food. This was once a smashing little restaurant with a great line in takeaways too. On the occasions we have visited during May-July 2008 - builders have conducted their meetings as we have eaten - not ideal.

Sadly, my friends have also noticed a change in the quality of the meals there lately. I hope it returns to what it once was! The dated decor of the restaurant is an irrevelance to us, we'd rather have a tasty meal. The waiters are always friendly there - but what's the point if you are served a tasteless plate of slop?

i have used the Manzil since 1980.in short- Brilliant food..Brilliant service..Brilliant atmosphere..brilliant surroundings..& the staff are superb..this restaurant is still in the same family as when it opened in the 1960s

First class restaurant.

Staff are most friendly and greet 95% of customers by name.

I have been using this restaurant since 1968 and love the atmosphere.

Hidghly recommended by myself and Bridie.
