Very disappointed with the level of service I experienced at Mechu.

Last night we tried to go there for my Girlfriends 22nd birthday. After checking the website regarding dress code the party of 25 made its way to the club in separate taxis, all arriving at different times and from locations as far away as Wales and Worcester, all very excited for a good night out in Birmingham.

Upon arrival at the club with my girlfriend, we discovered that eleven girls in our party had already been admitted with no problems, but the only three males in the party to arrive before us has been refused entry on the grounds that they 'looked scruffy.' This was completely unjustified as both were wearing smart shirts, brown leather shoes and one was even wearing a complete suit complete with tie and cuff links.

One of the refused males in our party then began to argue with the bouncer over this injustice which then led to our remaining party being barred from the club as well.

As we had just arrived at the club, at this point I was completely sober and decided to phone the club directly to make the manager aware of this problem with the club's door staff. I managed to speak to a Kate, who i believe is the manager of the club who was polite to begin with on the phone, but completely uninterested in our predicament and had no desire to understand out point of view. She then proceeded to hang up the phone when I asked for her name in order to follow the complaint up.

I would just like to add that in case people are wondering, everyone in our party were students or young professionals and all were dressed in line with the dress code and were not rowdy or expressing anti social behaviour in any way.

Although the bouncers were professional in the manner they barred us and did not get angry or thrown their weight around they were of course still discriminatory in what they did. The matter was made even worse when they proceeded to admit people into the club who were dressed even less smartly than the least smartly dressed in our party.

I have contacted Town & Country Inns directly to see if they will offer some sort of apology regarding this matter. I have never complained about anything formally before today, but in my opinion the staff at this club ruined what should have been a great night celebrating my girlfriends 22birthday and instead she will remember it for all the wrong reasons.
