Pad Thai

VIBE:
We visited Pad Thai on Valentines Day (2008). At 8pm, there were only 3 other couples in the restaurant. It did not get any busier than this. If you like karaoke, you'll probably like this place. I do not like karaoke.... Unfortunately, the four karaoke rooms are situated around the restaurant floor; closed off only by doors which are NOT soundproof! The result? 4 different songs going on at the same time; on top of the restaurant music. Oh, and drunken women dressed as the Spice Girls walking past our table every 5 minutes. There was also a horrible smell of sewerage.
FOOD:
The food might be better on other nights - but the Valentine's set menu was disappointing. Unless you love mustard, either starter is no good for you. Who knew Wasabi King Prawns were prawns covered in slimy green mustard? For the mains - our cod was served in some strange limbo between cooked and raw... . The Red Thai Beef was quite nice - but the beef tasted strange to me. The egg fried rice was dire - it was like microwave rice.
SERVICE:
A few of the waiters were very smiley - too smiley - but this is nothing to complain about; it is their custom to be extremely polite. However, many of the waiters were surly and inattentive. We were constantly left waiting and never asked if we needed more drinks between courses. Once we'd finished desert, we had to wait a full 20 minutes for someone to give us our bill.... and that is only because we gave up on waiting and asked for it!
PRICE:
Our bill came to almost £100! Granted, Valentine's day is always expensive. £60 for our food was extortionate for such a tacky restaurant. (Yes, we spent £30 on drinks... to get us through the nightmare!) They also added a 10% service charge, which we really should have disputed.
VERDICT:
I would never go back there. But if you like karaoke and you're not too fussy about the quality of the food, you might wish to give Pad Thai a go.

Pad Thai is awesome - the food is really nice but be careful to warn them if you do not like it too spicy! The waiters are very friendly and make sure you are ok. It is really good to have a meal and then be able to enjoy some entertainment without having to leave the venue - be wary of drinking too many Thai beers and convincing yourself you are Madonna!

15 of us went to Pad Thai for a hen do and it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening had by all. The food and menu was great with plenty of choice and the prices were reasonable for thai food. At 10:30pm the main restaurant turns into a karaoke bar with a list of so many songs it's had to choose what to sing. The atmosphere is great and the concept is brilliant. The only negatives were that we had to be split into two tables because there wasn't enough room for us all to sit together and the service at the bar was a bit slow for cocktails but it was a busy evening and the staff were very friendly and helpful!
