Pasta Di Piazza Birmingham

went for Saturday lunch just after returning from a few days in Rome - it bought it all back! The menu is focused on straightforward Italian food, with an impressive specials board, making your choice not all that easy. The atmosphere was fabulous - relaxed, spacious and easy - although I hear it gets jammed at night! The pasta dishes were wonderful, the wine was reasonable and the amaretto ice cream to die for!

Living round the corner from this place and seeing it packed night after night I was expecting something pretty special, I was unfortuately very disappointed, I can't particularly say it was a bad meal, just very very average (that includes the service!)
Wouldn't bother again and wouldn't particularly recommend it, it still amazes me how and why it is so packed all the time, my advice? Try MPZ'Z round the corner!

I'd heard lots of good things about Pasta Di Piazza and so decided to see for myself last night. The restaurant itself is pleasent enough, decorated in the style of a typical Italian trattoria. The cheesy Italian music was a bit too much though. The menu was quite comprehensive but this set a few alarm bells ringing - I always find that restaurants with fairly large menus tend not to be the best. I'm sorry to say that after hearing so many good reports we left somewhat dissapointed.
We had a tomato and mozzarella salad, garlic pizza bread and Crab linguine and a Milanese Rissotto for mains.
The tomato and mozzarella salad was very dissappointing. The tomatoes were pretty bland, although to be expected in England in April - this can however be compensated for by good mozzarella, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The mozzarella was quite dry and rubbery, not soft and creamy as it should be. This was more suited for a pizza rather than a salad. There was also no basil served with this dish which in my opinion should always be served with a good tom/moz salad. The olive oil was bland and the balsamic too acidic, again cheap ingredients.
The garlic tomoto pizza bread had a strange sour tatse to it and was very dry, no need to say any more.
My risotto was ok, tasty, but not high quality. There was far too much but in
it, as I found a pool of butter at the bottom of my dish as I neared the end.
My partner said he linguinie was quite stodgy, but overall was ok, nothing more, nothing less.
We paid £31 for the above with beer and a glass of house red so overall it wasn't so bad. I'd probably go back to give the pizza whirl but apart from
that I'd probably give the rest of the menu a miss.

I always eat out at this resturant and it now feels like my second home.
The moment I walk in I feel totally relaxed and the staff are so welcoming.
The food above all is amazing - favorite resturant in Birmingham!
