Pennyblacks
your comments review this restaurant
Living near to Penny Blacks we had been here several times for drinks, and were really looking forward to trying the food. It started well enough, with warm bread rolls. A steak was cooked as requested and accompanied by tasty chips. However, the only vegetarian of hot tomato and courgette bake proved to be deeply disappointed. The dish consisted of sliced courgettes mixed with canned tomatoes, topped with a thick greasy layer of cheap mozarella. Given the ease with which a tasty tomato sauce can be made, this seemed incredibly lazy on the part of the kitchen, and was surprising from somewhere that stresses on the menu the fact that bread is baked fresh on the premises. Adding insult to injury, the dish did not even come with the salt baked potatoes promised on the menu. The one bonus was the attentive and friendly staff, who were willing to help. The restaurant does have a fairly interesting wine list, and some good beers on offer, so probably safer just to go for drinks and give the food a miss.
