I had a an excellent meal this weekend, i went with a large group of frineds. We were looked after exceptionally well, the atmosphere was thriving and very busy. It was reasonably priced i would highly reccommend anyone to visit, i will now be a returning customer for any occassion. Excellent.

San Carlo on Temple Street is by far the best Italian restaurant within Birmingham city centre. I've heard they have other San Carlo's in Manchester and Leicester, but unfortunatey haven't eaten at those restuarants.
The food is just out of this world - it's always so fresh and presented beauitfully. I'm amazed at the speed at which the food always arrives as well.
The staff are always pleasant - we've never come across anything to be negative about, so I'm wondering whether the negative review is the work of a jealous competitor????
Keep up the good work SAN CARLO!

Dreadful place! The service is probably the worst I have ever experienced - waiters disappeared leaving us with over an hour to wait between courses. When we complained we were met with either a shrug of the shoulders or incredible rudeness. Definitely won't return on that basis alone.
The food was very good - just a shame they can't get the service right.
Certainly can't understand the hype about the restaurant. There are much better Italian restaurants in Birmingham where you get fantastic food AND service. Don't wate your money at San Carlo.

I've been so impressed with San Carlo - I've never had any bad experiences at this lovely restaurant. Yes, the place is loud, and very busy, but that's because it's an Italian restaurant!!! The Italian's are notoriously noisy! And it being so busy is only an indication of how good it is!
Keep up the good work - I love your restaurant!

Wonderful food and great service. Sometimes a victim of its own success and a little too busy but worth it for the food.

I cannot believe the negative reviews of this place - I just love San Carlo!!
I go there all the time - whenever my boyfriend suggests we go for a meal, if my girlfriends suggest lunch whilst we're shopping, for our Christmas party....I am obsessed! I've NEVER had a bad experience there, and that's why I just had to write it let you know!
The staff are lovely, very professional, a little flirty - but isn't that in true Italian style?! I just think it adds to the relaxed atmosphere that the restauarant oozes. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful - and they proudly display all of the famous faces that have visited, which is very impressive!
The food and wine is always great, and at such a reasonable price for the quality! I love having the lobster when I go - although a little more expensive than other options on the menu (naturally), it's always perfectly cooked and so tender I just can't resist.
I think you all should visit - and then make your own mind up! Because I know you'll love it!!!

Appalling place - looks the part (apart from paper napkins). Food, if you get the right dish can be quite good BUT terrible service...rude and over familiar creepy waiters. Whilst I appreciate the necessity to turn tables around (City Centre rates etc) we felt uncomfortably rushed. All the delays were due to poor service, wrong food, cold food, missing food and then we were expected to vacate the table before we had had desserts or coffees.
I have had one good and five bad experiences. I have now learnt my lesson and will not return.

I have now stopped going to San Carlo, the old passion of the place has now gone. The whole idea now is to pack them in and get them out selling as much as you can to the unsuspecting clients.
If you want good Italian food go to elsewhere.
Sorry to give this bad review but rude waiters and poor service do not have to be endured.

I'm glad I read everyone else's reviews about the over familiar waiters, because I had a hard time convincing my boyfriend I hadn't been before when on my first time there the waiter came over, put his arm round me and said it was great to see me again. Its not the best Italian restaurant in Birmingham, its okay but I've had better.

My girlfrined and I live in London and she had arranged for a weekend away in Birmingham as a suprise. Knowing my love for good restaurants she booked San Carlos as supposedly the best Italian restaurant in the (2nd) city.
The interior is modern and stylish and looks the part, the food is also above average (proabably very good for Birmigham) however service is poor and probabaly would not return.
Three courses and a bottle of wine came to £100 which I think would have been reasonable had we not been rudely rushed and finished within 1 hour. Actually we had wanted 2 bottles of wine and maybe coffee, however not made to feel accomodated so passed.
No time between courses at all.
Waiters over fimiliar.
An expensive hour.
Food above average.
