The Oriental Pearl
your comments review this restaurant
We have been to the Oriental Pearl a number of times, and would recommend its extensive choice of dishes, which are very well cooked - but absolutely rubbish staff with appalling behaviour. We went as a group of 8 on Sunday at 12 pm, and were left waiting for 10 minutes while the head waiter/manager stood yards away from us chatting on his mobile phone, and another waiter behaved very shirtily when a couple of the party helped themselves to the prawn crackers left on the bar for customers. After a while, the waiter asked us for the numbers, and clearly didn't believe us when we said 8, exaggeratedly counting us over and over again. He led us to the table, and the minute we started perusing the 'Drinks' menu, started yelling at us to order our drinks quickly - at which point I had had enough, and told him to behave politely to customers in no uncertain terms. That seemed to work, and he was better afterwards, but I was left with a bad taste in my mouth, despite the good food!

Last week we decided to go out for Sunday lunch, but left it too late to get a table at any of the local carveries. I fancied something a bit different so we went to a Chinese Buffet restaurant on the other side of Birmingham; I’d heard good things about the place so thought it was worth the drive.
We had to wait a little while to be seated so I suppose you would expect that on a busy Sunday afternoon. The choice of food was excellent,we were very surprised to have found a large choice of home-made desserts(particularly trifle) and the chocolate fountain is brilliant!
Despite how busy it was, the staff were all friendly and helpful and I can see why Oriental Pearl has such an excellent reputation. I would recommend this Restaurant to anyone! Thank you XX

Away from the hustle and bustle of Dudley and the Merry Hill shopping centre, the Oriental Pearl is a place for recuperating one’s senses with good food within a sophisticated and attractive setting.
There is an impressive array of cuisines from Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Malaysia, making it an ideal place to be adventurous with your palate. The Teppanyaki (pick-your-own raw ingredients and have them fried on the spot) is entertaining to watch – flames an’ all – and satisfyingly tasty. The meals in the buffet section taste as good as it looks. With a starting price of £5.90 for lunch and £10.90 for evening, you can eat as much as you like for a very reasonable price too. Dining in the Oriental Pearl is a wonderfully relaxed experience in a spacious and modern contemporary setting without rubbing shoulders with the table next to you. It was also a bonus not to have to queue long for that, as I have done in other places. The service was excellent, and my Long Island Cocktail surpassed its tantalising description in the menu. A final flourish was the chocolate fountain which made a perfect mouth-watering end to a great evening out.
Watch this space. I shall be more than happy to go back.

I have now visited the Oriental Pearl on three occassions and have been very impressed. Although a large space it is well set out and the array of food on offer is excellent. My lunchtime visit was still very good value for money and food quality was good, obviously not such an extensive range as evenings but still good.
The staff were found to be very friendly and approachable and we were seated quickly.
A latest addition is the live music on some Friday evenings, on my visit the singer was first class and very popular.
