I visited Simpsons with my wife and infant daughter on a weekend as a specific detour on our way further north. Interestingly, the room in which we had been sat was largely populated with other families which I assume was deliberate and OK unless you were one of the other poor souls who might have come for a quiet lunch. The restaurant was not busy (about a quarter full) but the service was interminably slow. This is tolerable under "child-free" circumstances, but you try the best part of 3 and a bit hours for lunch trying to keep a 9 month old infant in a high chair entertained. Another disgruntled family complained about the slow service. The food itself was of a high standard and on a par with the majority of one star restaurants we have visited. We ate from the a la carte and the wine was fine as was the overall price of the meal.

I went here with some business colleagues and expected a lot. Unfortunately it did not deliver. Drinks in the lovely outside area were slow (how long does it take to make a Pimms? - 10 minutes at Simpsons) One colleague at this point mentioned that they clearly didn't get a Michelin star for service.

Inside all looked OK, service still slow. Food arrived slowly. Food OK but not great.

Bizarre moment - wine glass drinks were not being replenished - decided to help ourselves - Maitre d' sprints down room (well certainly moved faster than at any previous moment) and wrestling match ensues. Very odd.

This restaurant is not bad, it's not great though and IMHO doe not deserve a Michelin Star. There are better restaurants in Birmingham.

I took my two teenage daughters here on a recent visit to Crufts

The food was out of this world - we went for the sampler menu , and the waitress was most helpful - apparently everybody at the table is supposed to have it together - but we got away with two of us and my other daughter ( who is vegetarian ) ordering on her own.

Each course was a work of art

Yes- it is expensive - but we also went for the sampler wine option and it proved really good value at £40 - some of the 8 glasses that we got were from bottles that were £50 on the menu

We thoroughly enjoyed it

Only gripe I would have is that I booked months in advance and asked to be seated in the conservatory - but was in fact in the main restaurant

My partner took me here for my 40th Birthday night. Wow I had no idea that Birmingham had such an amazingly delicious restaurant here! I now want to find a job quickly so that I can eat here at least once a month!!

I'm from London and so whilst the cost of Simpson's is not low, by comparison to London prices it's reasonable. The food was really

delicious and the service was excellent (Geoff was both informative and fun and managed to balance being friendly and scarce perfectly).

Excellent cuisine, excellent ambience, good service, good food. Pity about the rip-off wine prices.

I had dinner and stayed at Simpsons mid-week prior to business in Egbaston the following day. This is a very accomplished restaurant and thoroughly deserves its star. Not cheap, but good value for money nonetheless. Splendid service. Attractive garden with large rhododendron border in bloom and enhanced by hundreds of fairly lights. The room was quite simply a bargain.

Simpsons is a great place for romantic dinning. I went with my girlfriend and we both would say the food was faultless and Presentation of food was amazing. The customer service was so welcoming and not to in your face it was nice. The dinner was expensive but worth it, every pound was well spent. I will hopefully be going back soon I will be looking forward to it.

We went to Simpsons for Valentines night, expecting a truly magical evening, and were unfortunately met with incredibly bad service. We were rushed through our dinner and were neglected by the waiting staff to the point where we had to get up and pour our own wine.

Considering that the meal cost us in excess of £300 I feel completely mugged of the experience I had looked forward to for so long. A truly awful evening.

Have been to this excellent restaurant 3 times now and each time has been a real experience in luxury, attentive but not intrusive or obsequious service and excellent, well cooked, well presented food. Keep it up!! Though I do have to agree the wine list is a little pricey.

I've ben Simpsons a few times now - twice last month! The food is faultless, as is the service and atmosphere. It's a great experience, even though the wine list is really too expensive.
