West One

For a modern fine dining experience this is hard to beat. We've been a number of times now and never cease to be impressed with the food and service. To be fair its a little far for us to travel and we don't have as much time as we used to, but we'd rather come here for such a great experience than places closer to home.

The menu changes make such difference too, many places seem rarely to change what they offer and quickly become boring. The chef here seems to delight in showing what he can do, great imaginative food. Recommended -just don't become too popular - we want a table!

I ate for the first time at West One restaurant last saturday eveing encouraged by local gossip!

On arrival we were greeted by a lovely French fella who showed us to our table. I must say that the decor in the restaurant was very nice, painted in very neutral shades with a modern fireplace hanging in the entrance; it was very cosy.

We ate from the table d'hote menu which I must say was excellent value for money at only £18 for three courses, although I believe that of a Saturday evening this menu is only available until 7.30pm.

The menu was good, with around 7 starters, 7 main courses and 7 desserts, not too much choice which is a real turn off me as you spend half the evening trying to decide what to have!

The food was I have to say the best in the area.....by far. In fact I would say probably amoungst the best food I have had in a long time. The food was fresh and certainly home cooked.

The atmosphere was good, the tables far enough apart for no one to intrude on your conversation and a pianist played in the background.

The waiter and waitress were excellent and very friendly. I would say the restaurant is up market but not stuffy

We asked the young lad serving us what time we wuld need to vacate our table by and she said that we were welcome to stay as long as we wanted and that if we stayed until the end we could help with the washing up! Well I know she was joking but I wouldn't have minded getting in that kitchen and taking a few tips from the chef!

We ended up finishing our coffees in the bar in the end which was very nice indeed.

We have and will recommend the restaurant and we can't wait to return!

On new years eve i was unsure of what to do so i decided to give west one a bash! What a night we had! Brilliant atmosphere in there. £15 and we got a buffet, dj and a live band! We partied all night and will certainly be heading down there again sometime soon. I only wish we would have known about the meals upstairs as it would have been the perfect idea having a meal then popping downstairs to party. Having said all that, we really enjoyed every minute of our evening!

i came for a meal at christmas time, me and the family went as it was a special occasion. we each had a three corse meal, this consisted of a starter, main course and desert. each member had a variety of different foods for the courses and everyone complimented on how nice it tasted. it didnt only taste nice but it was well presented.

the staff there was very friendly and i enjoyed spending part of my christmas here.im going to advise other people to come as its a pleasure restaurant to come to.

i will definitely come again!

Fantastic food was enjoyed by all our guests and had fantastic live music in the bar area for us to dance to afterwards. very friendly staff and everyone said how nice the decor was around the place. I would suggest this place to anyone! Thanks for a great night!

Recently held a private party at West One's bar, to find it had been double booked, to my horror there was not enough food supplied, the balloons and table decorations were not put out until 10.30pm!! and to top it all off the manager is extremely rude and offered no apology or gesture of good will and has now banned me from the bar and restaurant for complaining about such a poor effort. I am disgusted with the managers attitude I would not recommend anyone having a private party there.

My husband and I ate at West One a few Saturdays ago and I can honestly say that it was the best dining experience we have ever endevoured.

We had a very warm welcome and taken to our table, I wanted a nice bottle of wine but was not sure which one to have so the waiter kindly gave me a few tasters...... even though I could have had all of them i opted for the Chablis... very nice indeed!

After taking our order we were presented with a amuse bouche.... lovely. My husband had the steak I had lamb, the food was outstanding, and the desserts were even better, I could only wish the chef could be wrapped up as a xmas gift for me.

The service was great, atmosphere superb and the pianist a delightful suprise.

I read some of the reviews as I looked on the website to book again and I can agree the decor of the restaurant is quite clinical but I believe after speaking with the waiter a refurbishment is being done within the next few weeks.

So rest assured that West one is the place to be if you would like outstanding food for fantastic value..... Our total bill for 3 courses plus wine plus coffee £79.65, and that was the al a carte menu.

We are going back mid week to try the set price menu......... £16 for three courses and wine, can't get that at the beefeater!!!

My wife and I ate at West One in Hagley on Sunday and can honestly say it has certainly lost its class in terms of service and quality of food compared to a few years ago. The portions are very small ( and I mean very small ), the music is played too loud that you have to shout to each other across the table of which I fully understand if it was a Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening but certainly not on a Sunday. I agree with other peole who have sent reviews in that the interior is a bit over the top and is more like an internet cafe or even a small version of IKEA rather than a so call high class restaurant I was expecting. All the staff seemed to be using their phones texing and on a number of times I wanted to order a bottle of wine but in the end did not bother. Well if you want to go somewhere for a special occassion then I would strongly advise you to think carefully as I know my wife and I along with my business associates will not be going back there again in a hurry!!!

We ate there partly encouraged by the reviews. The food is not bad at all, enjoyable in fact, except for one of the desserts. But we found the dining room spartan and the music too loud and intrusive for conversation. The entrance is unappealing. Hard to understand why it advertises itself as "English". More Italian/French fusion, judging by what we ate.

Highly recommended.

Four of us went to West One mid week and unfortunatly for the restuarant we were the only people in there and it is such a shame because the food is fantastic.

We have been to West One a few times now and it has never failed to deliver. The food is fresh and has fantastic flavours and the presentation can not be faulted.

The staff are attentive but not over powering and appeared whenever they were needed and then left us to it.

Value for money and a very pleasant evening was had by all.
