Mai Thai

Mai Thai is quite easily the best Thai restaurant I have been to! The food is delicious and the service very friendly and efficient. The portions of food are very sufficient and most importantly are extremely tasty. It is a restaurant that I will definitely be visiting again!

Very disappointing, food was very average for the price paid. Service was shoddy. What a shame, thai food is normally so tasty

Pros: Very child friendly (went for an evening meal between 7pm and 9pm; reasonable service; tasty food anf good red curry I agree with previous reviewer
Cons: Lowsy atmosphere; tables too close to each other and packed; food portions far too small
Verdict: will not return due to very small portions; my husband had to have an additional meal once we arrived home!!

Booked a table for four on saturday night, only two other tables occupied, tables small and rickety, listened to waiters advice and chose set menu for four, food tasty but portions very small for four people which looked silly on overlarge plates. Ordered wine and beer also asked for jug of water on several occasions which did not materialse. waiter did not return change when the bill was paid so no tip was left. Overall food fair but poor service and lack of atmosphere makes this place one to avoid,

The food it has to be said is very tasty. However beware the set lunch menu: it is very cheap because the portions are microscopic. The set menus in the evening however offer plenty of food. There are however 2 reasons why I won't go again. First, the service is off-hand and grumpy. Second, we ordered wine which came quickly, but we had to ask 3 times for a jug of water. Eventually they came with 6 very small glasses of water for us and no jug. This barely disguised punishment for not ordering mineral water was an insult.

Su, the owner and operator is originally from Thailand, and her meals are wonderful.
Make sure you have reservations, as she is nearly always crowded.
Try the red curry with coconut milk! You can have this in vegetarian, pork, beef, prawns or chicken. The spice of red curry with the gentle mildness of coconut milk is a treat for your palate.
***** rating!

I think mai thai is the best restaurant i have ever been to. The food, service, atmoshphere and value for money is phenominal. As soon as you step through that door you are stepping into Thailand.
Wonderful staff, all very welcoming. Kop Koon Klab

Generous portions and all of the highest quality. Chatted to the owner who told us of how and where she buys all the best and freshest ingredients which showed in the food. Compact dining area but bright and airy so didn't feel too cramped. Good, attentive service also. Overall highly recommended as a good, local eaterie.
