We came here today for a family lunch with my parents and our children. The service was ok, if slow at times. The food however, was hugely disappointing: the soup starter was so salty I couldnt eat it, the roast beef was tough and the potatoes soggy. There seemed to be an over kill of mash on the menu and the portions were really small for the prices we had to pay. The duck breast with white wine and mustard sauce...was totally over powered by the mustard my mother couldnt finish it. The childrens burger was really dry and over done, my fathers steak was tiny and priced around £14! There were really small amounts of vegetables with the meals. The puddings on the menu were stodgy, and they got the order wrong and finally the 'Costa Coffee' advertised was actually INSTANT coffee for the decaff option - doesnt say this on the menu.... DARE I GO ON?

I would not recommend this pub to anyone!

Sunday roast was a poor choice. Chicken dry, no stuffing but came with yorkshire. Mash cold tasted like smash. And no roasters but new pots roasted which were soggy. Very dissapointed!!!

EAT THERE 29/8/10, FOOD WAS REALLY BAD,

Took my Mum and Dad there for Sunday Treat, Soup starter was cold, garlic bread looked like a Jacobs cracker, then the main meal, mash cold, the beef was rubbish like shoe leather, service nearly as bad as meal, told waiter food bad, did not seem to care, cost £80 for 4 , felt completely ripped off, vote with your wallet on this place, I will..

We ate there 16/07/2010. We arrived early, were welcomed warmly, took a seat at a table in front of the bar. We had drinks while we watched meals passing us, trying to see what the food looked like. When we ate the food was good and well presented. My overall memory of the Peacock was how pleasent and attentive the staff were after reading some bad reveiws on this site, even when my partner decided to knock a drink ovedr me! Not cheap but well worth a visit.

we have been using the peacock inn for about 7 years .when it was privately owned it was fantastic ,friendly, homely and a great experience.NOW HOWEVER IT IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. The food is now awful mass produced and out of a bag and into the microwave. it has been recently modernised and has lost all of its appeal,it used to feel cosy but now it is horrible. we have booked a large party of 12 for christmas 2010 but will be cancelling. we will not return to the peacock again. shame.

Although I phoned to reserve a table I was told there was no need to reserve unless the party was a large one (there were four in our party). However when we arrived (at 7.30 p.m.) we were initially unable to get a table as there were reserved signs everywhere! Food we thought below standard. The Piri Piri chicken was over-cooked with not much meat. The vegetarian specials option had sold out and I had to search for the vegetables in the alternative dish I chose which was the Vegetable linguine. Also two of the four meals were not as hot as they should have been. Disappointing first visit.
