3 Adults and 2 and a half year old child arrived at 2.15 on Sunday 29th November 2009. A colouring place mat and crayons were immediatley provided for the child. Unfortunately, the crayons were provided in a GLASS which was knocked onto the tiled floor with diastrous consequensces. Might be an idea to provide an unbreakable container!!!!!
We ordered 2 Morroccan Lamb Burgers and a Steak Burger for the adults with a childs portion of Scampi, Mashed Potato and beans to be served ASAP!
The childs meal arrived and was presented nicely. She ate 2/3rds of it!
There was a delay of about 30 minutes whilst our meals were prepared but the wait was worth it!
The Morroccan Lamb Burger was piquant without loosing the flavour of the lamb. However, the accompanying sweet potato chips were disappointing as most of them were under cooked. The Steak burger was tasty and well presented.
The waiters could have been a bit more proactive (apologising for the delay in the arrival of the meals) and attentive!

The previous review encouraged us to try this for the first time, but we were very disappointed because of:- Grumpy service, took 40 minutes for our food to arrive and it wasn't even busy. We had steak burger and Moroccan lamb burger. The steak burger was only warmish and dry, no mushrooms as stated in the menu. The tomato looked like it was cut yesterday and the garnish had seen better days. The lamb burger wasn't Moroccan in the slightest, no herbs or spices, it was warm, and the bread was not as described, and the sweet potatoes were very soggy.
Avoid at all costs.

Great looking pub serving good beer - but don't be fooled - bar staff cracking jokes at my fathers expense on arrival.
Our starters came at different times we waited 40mins for garlic bread!
The New york gammon was just Gammon egg pineapple and melted cheese (Weird) and it cost about £3-4 more than the standard Gammon and egg. everything else was expensive too for what it was
Our son was poorly during our visit and the staff were unhelpful and falling over themselves to be unattentive and disinterested.
Sorry Peacock Inn we were really looking forward to our visit too - 0 out of 10 for value and service, and please cheer up and smile at your customers!

Four of us visited the Peacock Inn Ickneild street on Saturday, 12th September. We all had a very nice meal, fish and chips, steak and ale pie, and I had the chicken skewers. The beer was good and the service was excellent, the staff were very friendly. The new lady who has taken over, her name is Val, was very welcoming. I would certainly go again soon and would recommend The Peacock to everyone.

We went for a meal in March and thoroughly enjoyed it. We came back a couple of weeks ago and had a drink and a sandwich but we had to wait ages and when it came the bread was so dry it was like toast. So we weren't very impressed. This week my husband decided to take a friend of ours for dinner but yet again he was kept waiting for a long long time for his dinner to arrive. When it eventually arrived neither were impressed with the meal. The vegetables on the one plate looked they'd just come out of the field. There was 3 green beans thrown on the plate and the carrots were barely cooked, the pie wasn't too bad so he had something to eat. My husband's gammon steak was so tough he could have used it for the sole of his shoe. He felt very let down on the last 2 occasions and wont be recommending it to friends or making a return visit.

We went for Sunday lunch there this weekend and they now have a new menu and tiny portions. The food is ok but there is very little of it
A real disappointment and not value for money any longer

We have been there each week for the past 3 months, the staff and service are excellent,we don't go for the pretentious chalkboard but eat from the main menu card all dishes tried so far have been beyond reproach the fish and chips are so fresh the best ive had outside of Whitby and there is no grease taste at all on the chips or wonderful fluffy batter, the steak and ale pie is also a favourite .
The beers are all very good although the queue to get served can be a trial ,i get 2 rounds at a time problem solved

I can only echo the views of Sharon Mitchell dated the 23rd Oct 2008. Very disappointing.
The Peacock used to be a fantastic place to eat. The last couple of times I've been however, do leave a lot to be desired. The orders were taken quickly enough and indeed the first course arrived in good time. However it was not what was ordered. Appologies were given and accepted. The first course then arrived about 10 minutes later, correctly this time and it tasted ok.
The second course was a farce. The first time it arrived my order was wrong. The second time it arrived my wifes order was wrong and my steak was like leather. The third time it arrived side orders and accompliments were missing. The food was ordinary to the point of bland.
The staff were friendly enough but I will not be eating there again. For a pub The Peacock is a very expensive place to eat. If they want to charge £15 for a main course it has to come up to scratch. The food has the feel of bought in and microwaved rather than the good quality home cooked variety it used to serve.

Used to be a great pub serving absolutely fantastic food. However on our most recent visit we found the food and service to be very disappoinging compared to what we were used to.
I orderd the chicken salad. The chicken looked and tasted like it had been cooked for about 3 hours, it was dry as a bone and hard to cut and tasted awful. The salad consisted of a few wilted salad leaves and raw broccoli which was well past its sell by date, evident by the brown dry edges!
We ordered drinks at the bar. On the first round it took forever to get served, but we are gluttens for punishment so went back for another round a little while later only to be told that the til was broken and they could not serve any drink whatsover! Heaven forbid they could add up the round and input it into the til later on. So we went thirsty.
The whole experience was disappointing as we normally love this pub and have not been let down before. It may have just been a bad day, however, it has put us off and we are very reluctant to visit again.
