Mallory Court Hotel

My best friend and I had lunch at Mallory Court Dining Room recently and were very happy with the experience. As we approached the door was opened for us by a very polite maitre'd and coats taken swiftly. We were seated in the lounge and offered drinks, which came with a plate containing jars of smoked almonds, green and black olives, all delicious.
After selecting from the lunch menu which was £23.50 for 2 courses or £27.50 for three courses, we were shortly shown to our table and offered homemade bread. We both went for the focaccia which was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Before our starters we had a chef's appetiser of smoked salmon mousse with melba toast which was melt in the mouth delicious! For starter I had a smoked cod and brown shrimp boudin with crispy bacon and creamed leeks, which went very well together. My friend had a red mullet and citrus salad which was was a riot of colour and presented on a slate plate!
For main course I had pork belly with red cabbage and parsnip with pickled walnuts. The sauce was dark and fruity but the pork belly was a tad dry. My friend had brill with a creamy herb risotto and asparagus. The fish was perfectly cooked and the risotto unctuous and warming. (The only little complaint I would have had was a possible lack of seasonality- asparagus in mid March is unlikely to be from the UK, but that's a personal pet peeve).
Dessert was beautiful! We both had a chocolate and cherry pastilla with pistachio ice cream and iced banana parfait. This was followed by coffee and petit fours which were very indulgent. They included an orange jelly with popping candy, vanilla macaron, chocolate raspberry cup, chocolate brownie, chocolate caramel and brandysnap lollipops!
The whole meal took about 2 1/2 hours- we felt thoroughly spoiled. Our bill was £90. We didn't have any wine so I can't comment on that. We did have 3 glasses of fabulous champagne which I forgot to ask the name of-clever me!
We both had a great time and would definitely go back, but it's definitely a special occasion place!

Easter Sunday lunch in the brasserie - we were four adults and a five year old. Very elegant, drinks on the terrace. Not much for veggies on the menu. Imaginative children's menu. Very good welcome and service. Starters good but small ( I read on another site how they have successfully reduced their food costs to 26%!) but we filled up on their excellent home made bread. Main courses delicious esp the black bream. Superb sticky toffee pudding (generous portions of this.) Came to about 35 quid a head including two bottles of wine, coffee and service. Very good, we will come again.

My wife and I vistited Mallory Court for the second time recently. We had a great time in a lovely Hotel, the staff were very attentive and polite but without being over the top or in your face. We ate in the Braserie on the Friday night which was a bit of a dissapointment as they were extremely busy and had to wait ages just to see the menu (food was great though once we got it). On the Saturday evening we dined in the main restaurant which was superb - we'd highly reccommend it.
