Portway Italian

Went to eat there on Friday night and was very, very disappointed. The food was all clearly microwaved (staff even admitted the vegetables were) and the sauce my chicken sat in was covered in a thick skin.

We ate (some of ) our food as we were both starving and paid the bill- £75 for 1 starter, 2 mains- the veg, and a bottle of mid-priced wine- and complained to the manager that although we weren't looking for money off we thought they needed to make some changes to the food being served. The manager was rude, could not take criticism and did not even try to understand.

I had heard good things but left very upset and disappointed- will never return and have told all my friends and family not to bother either. The waiting staff were lovely though- the only good thing about the place.

Visited the restaurant last night, 5th June 2008. We chose from the menu then were asked if we wanted a 'selection of vegetables'. So the vegetables cost extra! (2.75 each). And the veg that we were served was as if they had loads of bits of different veg left over and decided to mix up all the bits and call it a 'selection of vegetables'. The food was nice, granted. Then we asked for our bill. The man went off mumbling about 'I'll get you a big one' - and that's exactly what he gave us. An incorrect bill with an overcharge of £17. This was queried and straight away was told 'oh, you've been given the wrong bill', with the correct bill passed to us from the counter. It all seemed a bit dodgy to me. We are not drinkers and had only the one drink, we didn't have starters or desert and we seemed to be harassed a lot to see if we wanted drink top ups or anything else. I feel this was a 'try it on' as we had only main courses and one drink each. We won't be going there again.

Had a super meal last night (5th June), my hubby and I took our neice and her husband for a thank you meal. It's long time since we had been to the restaurant but it is still a great eating place. Food was wonderful and the staff as usual very helpful and friendly. Will not leave it so long before we go again.

Had a great time at the Portway this week having lunch with my Nan. We were treated very kindly, and the food was excellent, totally catering to my Nan's requirements (as she's quite a fussy eater) and my elaborate wishes! Great service, wonderful food, and really busy for a Friday lunch time - always a good sign!

I feel I had to write after the sad news of EDDY passing away recently. The Portway restaurant has always been fantastic, great food, fab service and lovely staff. They are one big family.

We are having my mums birthday there soon and nothing is too much trouble. Owen is a wonderful person along with mum and sis they will make a great team to keep the portway going with it's great reputation!

Go and try it, you won't be disappointed.

We had not been to this restaurant before until we went in October 2007.

We were sufficiently impressed to make a second visit in December , and the party of five persons each made different selections from the menu , and no one came away disappointed.

All selections were well prepared and portions were just right.

Service was warm and efficient.
