Steer well clear of Longfellows if you want a warm welcome and good food - at least do if you are on a deal, I went with some friends on the Times eat for £10 voucher and was at first amused and then apalled by the poor quality and stingy quantity of food on offer.

The evening got off to a bad start when the waitress, on being asked if the Times promotion was successful for them, said they had quite a few people but that "it's Ok - we don't mind" - oh, thats alright then = you don't mind having customers.

The menu on offer was very mimited - three starters, three or four mains, three desserts - none of which were from the usual menu. When presented the food was decidedly below average - spicy meatballs with rice, muddy tasting faggot with mash, a single filled pancake - nothing to encourage one to return. But the piece de resistance was the cheese board - on asking what cheeses we would enjoy I was told "usually cheddar, a b,ue cheese and maybe a cream cheese - whatever we've got in really" - well I'm nothing if not adventrous so I went for it. I was presented with 4 crackers and three pieces of cheese - none of which would have actually filled any of the crackers on offer - it was laughable.

The issue I really have is why does a restaurant take part in such a promotion in such a half hearted way - they certainly haven't gained mu custon, quite the opposite. we eat out regularly and Longfellows could have gained good repeat business but they blew it.

Their location - right next to the canal - is an appropriate one - don't touch them with bargepole.

Nice enough family restaurant. If you are after a treat forget it!!!

wine opened before u see the bottle, starters microwaved, venison overcooked as a main course.when I ordered a double expresso & the best brandy at £10 a glass they were served in the same glass as a floater !!!(ALTHOUGH I ordered a bottle of chateau neuf & it was one of the best I have tasted in a long while)
