Enjoyed an excellent meal for 2 for £60. Good service and a pleasant clean restaurant. At the end of the meal I asked for a glass of iced water and was told that it is 'not the policy' of the restaurant to served tap water, only bottled water. In my view bottled water is a total con, not only expensive but also harmful to the environment, for many reasons. It is also in terms of some legislation required that restaurants serve tap water on request.

I asked to to speak to the manager and was told that he was not there and was not prepared to speak to me on the phone. The waiter was polite and respectful but stuck to his rules. He also refused to give me the manager's name - despite it being public domain information and displayed on the lintel over the door.

Not only is the policy inappropriate and unusual, the attitude of the manager is both cowardly and unprofessional and refusing to engage in dialogue with a disgruntled customer is appalling.

Always a favourite with those living in the area, a trip to sherwoods is seen by many as a trip to the best indian restaurant in the area. Unfortunately, it seems the management have heard that they have an amazing reputation and have they no longer need to make an effort. I'm not a big complainer, I will give the place its due. We arrived at a busy time and they got us seats, treated us very well, guided us through the menu. I thought I was in for a fantastic evening. I then played my Indian restaurant trump card, the move that shows the quality restaurants from the not so good. I ordered a Chana (chick pea) curry. They seemed to be ok with that and all seemed ok. The starters came, I had prawn puri. The prawns had shells on, I asked about them and was told "Sorry, that's just how they come, it happens sometimes". I was pleased I had not ordered prawns as part of my main dish, when that arrived (on time, to their credit) I was thoroughly unimpressed. I asked around the table for individual opinions on the meals that we were eating and one reply was repeated over and over, "It tastes like marmite" or "It tastes like dog food". There was an eerie taste of beef that did resemble marmite, like when you sniff a dogs food and you can almost taste it, that's what our curries tasted of.

I decided I could not be bothered to make a complaint and filled up on naan bread (which was quite nice). When the bill came, I was shocked to see that my Chana Patia had come to the value of £5.95! (As a pointer, my local takeaway charges £3.75 for any Chana dish, all of which are more enjoyable) I would be unhappy to pay £5.95 for a chicken curry, but I certainly know the difference between the price of Chick peas and Chicken! Seeing as it can be purchased as a side for £1.95, I could not see the sense in me paying a further £4 for an extra spoonful of a curry that tasted like a beef spread. I will not be returning to Sherwoods because not only is the food poor, but the staff over charged me ridiculously.
