your comments review this restaurant

I was another member of the group of ten mentioned below and am only posting my review because of the allegation that our party are the sort of people who look for an excuse to complain when entering a restaurant - quite the opposite is the case, the majority of us hate making a scene and, as it was my wife's birthday, the idea of having a row was the last thing on our minds.

I can only agree with the previous comments regarding that evening. They were clearly understaffed. They had no change so they ended up owing us money every time we bought a drink prior to the meal and they took our order twice because they misplaced or mistook the first order. I do not, however, apportion any blame to the waitresses on that evening. They were clearly poorly experienced and out of their depth and the manager was not present - as we found out later when we asked to speak to her. She made us wait twenty minutes and then had to speak to another couple who had made a complaint prior to speaking to us.

Of the ten meals we ordered, four were of an acceptable standard. The chicken was of the high standard that we had been led to expect from the Seven Stars - like Mr and Mrs Johnson I have visited regularly in groups and as part of a couple. However, one pizza was so overcooked that the waitress brought out a steak knife with which to cut it. The steaks were simply not rib eye steaks and all were cooked medium - this point was emphasised when we asked the waitress which steak was medium, which one well done and which one was medium rare. She, like us, could not differentiate between them.

The manager accepted that the food was substandard by allowing us only to pay for the edible meals, however, her attitude, rather like that of Mr and Mrs Johnson, seemed to imply that we'd all been unable to eat the food in some sort of pound saving excercise. As a group of professional people, I can assure the manager and the Johnsons that saving £13 for a meal is far less satisfactory than actually being able to enjoy a celebration meal with ones family and friends.

In summary, the food was unnacceptable. The waitresses were undertrained and undersupported. The bar was ill prepared and the service from the manager was offensive. I'm glad that Mr and Mrs Johnson feel that the service they get makes them feel superior to people who visit Wetherspoons' pubs, however, if they honestly think that the food and service at the Seven Stars on the 7th July were acceptable to them, I would suggest they visit some of the other excellent eating establishments we have in and around Stourbridge and gain some perspective on the issue.

Unfortunately on this occasion the bar man (andi use this in the loose sense) was very rude to a female member of the party, for no good reason. I feel in this case the party were well within their rights to make the complaints they did. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and should be able to expect a high standard of service in British pubs and resuraunts. The party booked well in advance and the reply to the complaints made was suitable, however as a member of that party i will not be eating there again.

When you are part of a group of 10 guests that have reserved in advance you should be treated with the upmost of respect. The steak was that appalling it wouldn't of even repaired my boots!!!! It was just a plate of fat and as far from a succulent piece of rib eye as possible.

My vegertarian pizza was certainly cooked!!!!!!!! The fact that i was offered a steak knife to eat it with instead of a fresh pizza was crazy!!!!!!! I think i ate a small part in the middle that was edible but then i still needed something to take the burnt taste away!

Shall i continue, because i could....the list of complaints would probably block this site all together.

Myself and my partner go the seven stars every 3 months or so and the staff have always been polite and courteous and always willing to help. Re: the comment below, I was there on Saturday July 7th and they did seem to be short staffed but they aplogised for the wait and the food as usual was fantastic. Unfortunately some peolple go into restaurants wanting to complain before they have even ordered a meal. Maybe the party of'10' should stick to Wetherspoons where I believe '2 for 1' is always an option. As for commentating the bar man is lucky to be alive....maybe you should order a set of balls next time you go for a meal instead of issuing a pathetic threat a day later on a website. Grow up.

I went with a party of 10. We had six of the meals for free as they were so bad. The mains didn't come until after an hour and a half after we ordered. The staff didn't know which steak's they were bringing out, but that didn't matter cause they were all cooked the same. And one of our female friends was reduced to tears by an aggressive and rude bar man. They had no change, no ice, no coke, the staff were incompetent and rude. Needless to say we won't be returning and 'Rob' the bar man is lucky to be alive.
