Horse & Jockey

We visited The Horse and Jockey last night with friends. I was a little aprehensive about the meal as I requested a copy of their menu be posted out to me and it didn't arrive. Having booked on the basis of a magazine article though I had seen the pictures of the refurbished interior and was impressed by the look of the pub (I would call it Brasserie / Bistro style)
It was fairly quiet for a Saturday night but this is abviously down to the fact that their reputation hasn't spread far and wide YET. It was a very enjoyable meal made more enjoyable by the price - £9.50 2 courses or £12.50 3 courses. I opted for 3 courses - Horse and Jockey Caesar Salad with Smoked Chicken, Corn Fed Chicken Breast in a Dijon Mustard and Cream Sauce with Roasted Root Vegetables and Sticky Toffee Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream for pudding! I am usually very critical of food and service having worked for a number of years in hotels with 2 AA Rosettes but I can honestly say that this meal was great. The salad was fresh, tasty and well presented, the main course was beautiful, the roasted vegetables were cooked perfectly and the sticky toffee pudding was delicious. The service was also faultless. I would describe this as proper 'home cooked' pub food and I think Gordon Ramsay would be impressed with 'simple food done well!'
