Mango Tree

Visited Mango Tree Sat 4th Feb. It was a fair distance from us, coming from Warwickshire, but had been reccomended and certainly lived up to expectations - was told it was one of the top 30 Indian restaurants in the UK. And it was! Amazing! Started with Mussels in a coconut and ginger sauce. What was really nice was that for once you could actually taste the mussels - the sauce really complimented the dish and didn't over-power the mussels. It was unusual and a real treat. My partner had the crab cake, served with a plum sauce, again a very innovative dish and a great combination. For mains we had a lamb coondapur (I think that's how it's spelt) which was very fragrant dish with lamb pieces cooked in coconut, chilli and tamarind - sensational; and a king prawn dish cooked with mango - fabulous. For side dishes you just have to try the aubergines cooked in peanut sauce ( I could have eaten it all night) and the okra in coriander and tomato. We washed it all down with a very reasonably priced Fleurie, under £17, which was fantsatic value.

The service was impecable from start to finish, very friendly and, most important, informative. It would be so wrong to describe this restaurant as just another 'Indian' - this was an experience, very thoughtful and immaginative menu which suprised and delighted in equal measure. We will definately be returning again and again. Great food, great service and great value. If you like to try something really different you won't be disappointed.
