Beautiful restaurant and such potential, but what a let down. Poor service - waiter hung around waiting for our order, when we clearly hadn't decided, and then did the same as we worked out the bill payment. He didn't tell us about changes to the menu until after the food arrived and got the order wrong. It's the first ever time I have left no tip.

The carvery was edible, but food had been out a long time. My salad order was not as listed - mayo instead of lime dressing - and consisted of lettuce, 1 small tomato and 4 slices of cucumber, oh and onion which I'd requested to not have. My side order of roast potatoes were hard enough to smash a window and I had to ask for the chilli dressing that was listed with them.

There was no children's menu, nor children drink portions and the children's play area wasn't open. Yet the restaurant is situated immediately next to a Holiday Inn. Bit of a lost opportunity!! And it's expensive. I will avoid this place like the plague. As do most people as it was barely a quarter full.

Good News, After reading the other review's I still decided to visit this pub on my way back from London the other week. Anyway the 'Good News' is that this pub is now under new management or so I was told by the cheerful staff inside. I visited on a Friday evening and found it only to be half full but that did not matter they now have a carvery, I eat turkey and gammon what I treat, the meat was wonderful ad the vegetables which I was able to help myself to were so fresh! My partner ordered Swordfish from the kitchen, again perfect! I agree that this place is not designed for children although my niece did spend half an hour is the fun house. The staff was extreamly helpful, the new manager seemed very young but full of passion, and seemed to love what he does! Well done! Lets hope other people give the 'Porridge Pot' a chance! As we loved it!

I would also agree with the previous reviewer - its a shocker - after driving back from Ireland via north wales I was ready for a beer - thats was my first mistake, it took 10 minutes to get served as there was no one behined the bar - they may have an indoor play area here but its £2.50 per hour / per child - also, we paid £4.50 each for 2 kids meals which consisted of 1 deep fried sausage on a spoonful of powdered smash, microwaved peas and congealed gravy - our meal wasent much better either - trust me, it isn't a child friendly place -avoid it - unless you want overpriced drinks and tastless food....

We found this pub from a website offering alternatives to motorway service stations that provide tasteless overpriced food. It's just off the M40 with indoor play area, perfect to break up our 5 hour journey and let the kids scretch their legs.... or so we thought! Being a chain pub I thought I would go for the safe pub option 'bangers and mash', afterall how can you screw it up...I was wrong. For a little under £8 I was served up cheap sausages and instant smash! My wife also received 'Smash potatoe' with her Staek and Ale pie. Avoid if you are looking for a good food, this place would make a great Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares.
