Anderson's Bar & Grill

I booked this restaurant for a special graduation meal for my son on the strength of the excellent reviews it was receiving. On arriving at the restaurant for a 6pm reservation i found it to be cold and soul-less. There was nobody to greet us and we had to hang around waiting to be shown to our table as the guy who was behind the bar as we entered seemed to do a disappearing act as we arrived!
Our table was fine and the menu seemed very promising with a vast array of steaks available. We ordered our starters - which arrived promptly and were without fault. I had a mushroom soup which was fantastic. All the other guests were equally gushing about theirs.
The mains, however, were a disappointment. My steak lacked that freshly cooked look - looking like it may have been left sitting for too long before being served. It was a T-bone and whilst the fillet end of it was nice(ish) the other side was un-chewable. Tough as old boots I think is the term.
The Mixed grills were mediocre - served on a wooden board - once again lacking lustre and bland to the look and taste. Surf and turf, whilst looking freshly cooked and hot were small in portion, but I believe edible.
All in all we were very disappointed with our meal - it cast a bit of cloud over an otherwise fabulous day. It was not the kind of place where one would hang around drinking wine and having fun due to the cold nature of the place overall - despite it now having begun to fill up.
I would not return here or recommend this restaurant. This was in no way due to the service -which was without fault. A couple of lovely waitresses doing their job very well. It is due totally to the whole ambience - or lack thereof - and to the poor food or what appeared to be a lack of enthusiasm on the part of the person preparing it. Shame.

When it comes to a having great steak I always had to trek down to London for something decent. I've been to Maze Grill, Hawksmoor, The Butcher Shop+Grill, The Guinea Grill, Sophie's steakhouse to name but a few.
That was until I visited Anderson's Bar and Grill last week with a friend. The atmosphere was perfect for a wonderful dining experience. The decor and lighting was tasteful and importantly the tables were spaced well apart.
A variety of warm breads with butter and roasted garlic bulbs were served on arrival. We ordered the 32oz Coute de Boeuf cooked medium.( This was a magnificent piece of steak on the bone, sliced for your convenience, and served on a wooden platter with a side salad. To accompany this were hand cut chips or garlic new potatoes.
The meat was tender and delicious. In fact the whole evening was excellent>
Amazingly this meal was £25 total excuding drinks. This is amazing value bearing in mind I paid £40 for a single 12oz USDA steak at Maze Grill without the trimmings a few months back.
That steak pipped this one for tenderness but ultimately it was an equally satisfying experience.
Overall, I would recommend Anderson's for the friendly reception and wonderful food at a very reasonable price. I dont think the above deal will be there for long as I would have expected to pay at least £40+
